Infrastructure
Networks, capacity, storage and integrations form the technical foundation of a process.
Make dependencies visible
Identify the services and connections the process relies on. These may include authentication, communications, computing capacity and storage. Failure of a shared service can affect several tasks.
Keep operating during disruption
Assess backup connections, recovery, information availability and manual procedures against process criticality. Ensure fallback arrangements also work when the primary management environment is disrupted. Exercises help identify missing prerequisites.
Practical example
When management tools are unavailable
The incident management team uses an agreed backup communication channel and offline instructions. Events are recorded temporarily using an agreed method and transferred to the main system when it recovers. This preserves the handling history.
Include in your process description
- Which technical services does the process depend on?
- Is capacity sufficient under exceptional load?
- How does work continue during a connection or service outage?
- Have fallback arrangements been tested in practice?
